Total Drama Pahkitew Island Thoughts Part I
Original Posted: Aug 10, 2014
Total Drama Pahkitew Island was probably my favorite season (I finally found one!) and quite possibly the best of the entire series. My only major problem with the season is Chris increased obsession with pain along with the treatment of certain characters. Overall, a great season that could even give season 1 and 4 competition while making World Tour still look like a bad fanfiction with only three or four good elements. Any who let us move along to the characters from my most disliked to most loved.
14. Sugar - I have never watched Honey Boo Boo meaning that I don't know much about who Sugar's based off. If Honey Boo Boo was anything like Sugar, then thank goodness that, I never did. She was Owen without the charm or the overall likeability. When she was funny, I chuckled however; she annoyed and angered me more than anything. If she was suppose to be this season's main antagonist, she was decent, but it would not save her character for me. 13. Amy - Sibling rivalry is one thing, but the crap that she was pulling just irked me. It was not funny in any sense of the word. Not even in Black Comedy standards. I am glad Sammy got her out of there for a while because Amy kept crossing too many lines. 12. Rodney - His shtick got annoying very fast. I remember when rumor and hints were going around that he would have a crush on a different girl in every episode. In my mind, I thought would be funny short gag for a few episodes. I think my main problem with it was the execution. Every time a girl touches him, he goes gaga which made this statement sound more dirty than it should have. -_- SORRY, KIDS! However, his confrontation with Clucky from Naruto Abridged did amuse me. Therefore, I am very indifferent to this guy, and I'm not expecting him to return in the future. AMY, dude! Really! 11. Topher - Meh. While Rodney got on my nerves with his shtick, Topher was just there to me. Sure, he tried to brown-nose Chris to steal his job as host, but was there anything else to remember about Topher besides that. Not to me. 10. Dave - I didn't come into the season thinking I was going to like Dave. He seemed like Noah 2.0 from the storyboards, which bogged him down since I'm not a big fan of cynical/pessimistic characters minus few exceptions. However, my expectations of him changed when I watched the Italian version. He slowly made his own character in my eyes, but he wasn't a character that I would support. He was such a passive aggressive chump that it killed most of likability that I was hoping to gain for him. What's even sadder is that they got Daniel DeSanto who voiced Ray Kon from Old School Beyblade to voice this guy with Dave and Ray being completely different characters from one another. After that, the only thing that I kept thinking was "Dude, your voiced by Ray Kon! Get it together, man!", but his character kept digging a hole until he almost hit the mantle in the finale. I just hope if Dave ever returns that he could change my mind leaving him as my only neutral (or low neutral with the overall cast) character this season. 9. Scarlett - I liked Scarlett in the beginning. I enjoyed her interactions with Max, and respected her intelligence. Then, she turned out of nowhere into Female Chuck (people who followed my Harold's Facebook series know exactly what I'm talking about). Does that make me hate her? No. Does that twist of revealing her real self bug me? Yes. For example, Mal's excuse could easily be that he was darker part of Mike that could come from what lead to his disorder in the first place. Scarlett honestly has issues that she needs to settling, and I hope we get more focus on this. Otherwise, I keep her up here for her interactions with Max. 8. Max - And speak of the devil, I like Max. He is one of my favorite types of Villains. He has hidden depths, flat out hilarious, and he has flaws. He gave me so many laughs that I couldn't hate him. The only reason that he's so low is that I liked other characters more, but he was a good bit away from becoming a favorite of mine. 7. Sammy - I keep finding myself rooting for underdogs. Heck, most of my favorite protagonists are underdogs. Sammy does indeed fit this role. Her sister henpecked her, she probably has a horrible home life because that sister, and people don't like her because of Am...Did I mention I hate Amy with a burning passion? I like her out of principle, and her friendship with Jasmine. Moreover, her getting Amy out of the game was one of my favorite moments behind Duncan going to jail. 6. Ella - Was I suppose to like her? Because, I enjoyed her character more than possiblly should have. I was never a big fan of many Disney princesses beside Cinderella, Belle, Mulan, and Tiana. Yet, she wasn't an unlikable character by any means. It could be how Dave and Sugar treated her that made me take her side, but she was great without those peasants pissing in her cereal. In addition, that elimination song was made of brilliance. I want her to return someday, because she's just that entertaining. 5. Shawn - He is an odd chase. I like his performance throughout the season, the hints that we got about his past, and his relationship with Jasmine. However, his thing with zombies bogged him down, along with how much it skewed his judgment. If he just a full-blown conspiracy nut like Dale Dribble, he would be higher on this list. Since I never got into the zombie fad, I couldn't be as interested in him as much as I wanted. 4. Jasmine - I always had a soft spot for female characters like Nico Robin and Garnet from Steven Universe. Jasmine was no exception to this. She knew when to take charge, but not be annoying with it like Courtney did. However, once she started to fallout with Shawn. She really turned into a different person that sadly bogged her down by a notch (I don’t blame her, but still). Heck, she would have been number one and my favorite female character in this series as whole. I would love to see her appear again. Knowing this show, I might find myself disappointed on what they'll do with her. 3. Sky - Sky is going to be controversial one. I love her character for besides her size that she’s a great athlete, tried to keep her head in the competition, hold the team together, and will admit that she screwed up. She also had flaws like her burping when nervous or being sore loser that balanced off her character greatly. The problem that I had with her was her interactions with Dave where we hit the controversy. Yes, Sky forgetting to tell Dave about her former boyfriend was her mistake. However, Dave is at fault 60% because he hardly listens to her. She could probably brunt up the boyfriend twice, and he still wouldn’t pay attention or let her speak. This got worse on how much he kept pouring himself on her. That could easily tense up anyone no matter what gender they are. Overall, I love her as a character, but the Skave junk is a mark on her image that I will just have to live with. Moreover, for people calling her Zoey 2.0, it's like their comparing a character like Hinata from Naruto to a character like Kimi from Rugrats/All Grown Up to each other. Characters that are equally as nice, however they are completely different when it comes to flaws and character traits. Yeah, I’ll just end it there. 2. Beardo - I feel sorry for this guy. He had a shyness factor that really should have been resolved. I can see him having some good interactions with people especially Leonard. However, what we got was still a funny character. If he were anything like Reggie Watts, which he's based on, he definitely would be interesting character if he stayed longer. I'm hope that he returns with a bigger role in the future. Leonard: *raises staff* Prepare for battle team of the floating fish! Beardo: *fanfare plays* Leonard: Thanks, Minstrel! Beardo: *thumbs-up* No problem, Wizard Bro. Dave: *face-palm* Grrrr... I know what you’re thinking, "Where's number 1?" and "Why haven't I seen Leonard on this list yet?” Well, talking about him is going to be long rant, which is why I'm going to continue this in the next blog. LET’S GO! Go to Part II>>
